Franklin County Schools closed for Tuesday
January 20, 2025
Shortly before noon on Monday, Superintendent of Education Chris Kent announced that public schools in Franklin County will be closed on Tuesday.
The decision was made as winter weather was rolling into the area. Snow and ice were predicted to start coming through the county late Monday night and continue into Tuesday. The winter weather advisories are expected not to expire until some times Wednesday, with bitter cold temperatures predicted throughout the first three days of this week.
Schools were closed on Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday, and Kent said keeping students, teachers and staff safe was a top priority for himself and the district as a whole. One of the biggest concerns was having buses transporting children out on roads that could become icy and dangerous.
It was announced that a decision on opening or closing schools on Wednesday would be made on Tuesday.
