FC softball snakebit at Wesson, 15-0

WESSON — Franklin County High School’s varsity fast-pitch softball team closed out its 2023 regular season with a 15-0 loss on Tuesday, April 18 against Wesson’s Lady Cobras.

Despite the defeat, FC’s campaign mark settled at 11-10 overall and 6-2 in regional action with the Lady Bulldogs ending up as the No. 2 seed from District 7-3A headed into the post season.

Wesson claimed the 7-3A district crown following an 8-0 regional run — including two wins over FC — and a 13-8 record on the just-completed season.

The Lady Cobra scored 15 runs on 10 hits in last Tuesday’s contest while the Lady Dawgs were limited to just two walks in the third inning by Indayshia Morgan and Marianna Thomas while Jhalayah Tillman reached on a called third strike in the first inning.

Tillman, Greyonne Queen and Sadye Scott all finished 0-of-2 at the plate with Tillman striking out twice.

Queen and Scott struck out and grounded out in the contest.

Karlee Wallace, Amberly Wallace and Marlee Tindle went 0-of-1 with all three striking out once while Katherine Romero was also 0-of-1 and grounded out.
Karlee Wallace, as pitcher, worked two-and-a-third innings and faced 23 Wesson batters in the process.

She gave up 14 runs (12 earned) on nine hits while walking four and striking out one. Her pitch-to-strike ratio was 76-43 (56.5 percent).

In relief, Scott faced four batters and was tagged for a run on one hit while walking two. Her pitch-to-strike ratio was 14-5 (35.7 percent).

FC committed three errors in the loss.

The Lady Dawgs previously fell to Wesson by a 21-1 margin on Thursday, March 9.
