Lady Dawgs soccer wins three-straight games before Christmas break

Franklin County High School’s varsity girls soccer team improved to 10-5 overall on the season prior to the Christmas holiday after claiming a trio of wins over Bogue Chitto, Loyd Star and West Lincoln.

The Lady Soccer Dawgs also sport an unblemished 5-0 in district play thus far in the 2021-2022 campaign.

FC 7, BOGUE CHITTO 0

In a 50-minute, mercy-rule shortened contest at home, Franklin County powered past Bogue Chitto by a 7-0 margin on Monday, Dec. 13.

FC ultimately outshot the Lady Bobcats 34-0 to dominate the contest, and finished with an impressive 17 shots on goal.

Morgan Laird and Edniya Gordon led the way for the Lady Soccer Dawgs with two goals each while Ashlynn O’Quinn, Kayleigh Bolt and Lilly Hutto had one goal apiece.

Brooklyn Cupit had a team-high three assists for Franklin County as teammates Addison Lunsford and Laird had one each.

The Lady Dawgs had 31 defensive stops against Bogue Chitto with Ali Bolt leading the way with four while Kaitlyn Fussell, Karlee Wallace and Kayleigh Bolt recorded three each.

Others collecting stops were Addison Cooper, 2; Amberly Wallace, 2; Kayleigh Foy, 2; Hutto, 2; O’Quinn, 2; Cupit, 2; Gordon, 1; Laird, 1; Gre’yone Queen, 1; Carmen Coleman, 1; Braxton Martin, 1; and Meg Kelly, 1.

Goalkeeper Katherine Romero was credited with the shut-out victory in 50 minutes in front of the net.

FC 6, LOYD STAR 4

After going in the hole early, 2-0, to Loyd Star, Franklin County recovered with two goals to knot the game and force a penalty kick showdown in which the Lady Dawgs found the net four times.

Kayleigh Bolt scored the two regulation goals for FC with timely assists from Gordon with Kayleigh Bolt, O’Quinn, Hutto and Ali Bolt connecting on their penalty kicks to give the Lady Dawgs a hard-fought win.

The trio of goals was good enough for a hat trick for Kayleigh Bolt in the Tuesday, Dec. 14 contest.

On offense, Franklin County had 32 shots and 12 shots on goal with Kayleigh Bolt recording five SOG to pace the team and O’Quinn had two.

Ali Bolt collected 11 defensive stops for the Lady Dawgs while Fussell and Kayleigh Bolt added eight each.

Also on the defensive take-away tally sheet were: Karlee Wallace, 7; Amberly Wallace, 6; Cupit, 5; Hutto, 4; Gordon, 3; O’Quinn, 3; Foy; 3; Laird, 2; Queen, 2; Martin, 1; Cooper, 1; and Ken’niya McGowan, 1.

Romero had four goalkeeper saves versus two surrendered goals to Loyd Star while Amberly Wallace stopped two of four penalty kicks by Loyd Star and earned the win.

FC 4, WEST LINCOLN 2

The Lady Soccer Dawgs scored two goals in each half to cruise to a 4-2 win over West Lincoln’s Lady Bears on Thursday, Dec. 16.

Kayleigh Bolt scored twice in the affair and increased her seasonal goal count to 13. She had a team-high eight shots and four shots on goal against the Lady Bears.

Gordon scored as did O’Quinn on a penalty kick for the Lady Dawgs. O’Quinn and Laird both had a single assist in the victory.

FC amassed 30 shots with 15 shots on goal.

On defense, the Lady Dawgs had 51 stops with Ali Bolt recording nine and Fussell and Karlee Wallace finishing with seven each.
Others with defensive stops included: Amberly Wallace, 6; O’Quinn, 4; Cupit, 4; Hutto, 4; Foy, 3; Kayleigh Bolt, 3; Gordon, 2; Queen, 1; and Laird, 1.

Romero collected four saves in front of the net and gave up a pair of goals while also blocking a penalty kick.

UPCOMING GAMES

The Lady Soccer Dawgs are slated to return to regular season action at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4 at Wesson and will travel to face Forest at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 8.

On Monday, Jan. 10, FC’s girls go on the road to face Loyd Star at 5 p.m., and will journey to Bogue Chitto to play at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11.

FC’s Senior Night program is slated Friday, Jan.14 at the Dawg House.
