Dr. Harold Augustus Anderson

Funeral services for Dr. Harold Augustus Anderson, 87, of Eddiceton, were held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Bude Church of God with the Rev. Taylor Chisolm, the Rev. Tim Bedwell, Dr. Jantsen Touchstone and Sister LaJoy Touchstone officiating.

Visitation was held from 5:30 p.m., until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.

A private, family-only graveside service was held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Byrd’s Chapel Church of God Cemetery with the Rev. Chisolm officiating.

Dr. Anderson was born to Conway Anderson Sr., and Nellie Mae Mosley Anderson on June 29, 1935, in Jacksonville, Fla., and passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville.

He answered the call to ministry and furthered his education at Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, Fla., in 1968.

He received his bachelor of arts degree from Mobile (Ala.) College; a master of divinity degree from New Orleans (La.) Baptist Theological Seminary in 1974; and a doctor of theology degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1982.

He pastored churches in Florida, Alabama and Mississippi with his wife, Gladys Marie Brogdon, who he married at age 18, serving alongside him through the years.

In Franklin County, Dr. Anderson pastored at Bude Baptist Church as well as McCall Creek Baptist Church, where he led that congregation for 20 years and retained his membership there.

Dr. Anderson loved his church, and on Dec. 10, 2019, the congregation named him pastor emeritus in honor of his faithful service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gladys; his sisters, Dorothy Anderson, Ellen Smith, Helen Smith and Loraine Spellman; and his brothers, Conway Anderson Jr., and Joseph Anderson.

Survivors include his daughters, Cindy Lee Cater and her husband, Jimmy, of Eddiceton, Terri Meggs and her husband, Mickey, of Aberdeen and Karen Touchstone and her husband, Ronnie, of Eddiceton; his eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Touchstone, Jimmy Cater, Mickey Meggs, Spencer Touchstone, Jantsen Touchstone, Michael Meggs, Chad Mulkey and Rudy Blanco.

Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Touchstone, Peyton Touchstone, Braxton Touchstone, Lindsey Coggin, Ethan Coggin, Noah Meggs, Jack Meggs, Lennon Mulkey and Jaylin Harris.

The family thanks Dr. W.B. Larkin for caring for Dr. Anderson and his family for many years, as well as Dr. Kimberly Estes for caring for him in his later years.

The family also thanks all Meadville Convalescent Home and Franklin County Memorial Hospital employees for treating Dr. Anderson like family and providing such thoughtful care to him.
