Bude Earth Day fest, clean-up slated April 22

by Nicole Stokes

The Bude Community Foundation’s inaugural “Earth Day Festival and Community Clean Up Day” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 22.

Residents can drop off non-hazardous waste items, including tires, appliances and other garbage at the BCF Community Center at the intersection of Third Street, Main Street and Mississippi Highway 184 (the former Bude United Methodist Church).

Trucks and trailers will be on-site to haul away garbage and a container will also be there strictly for metal waste.

Volunteers will be present to help people unload their vehicles and collect unwanted goods.

The first 100 people to bring a load of discarded items will receive a free dogwood tree.

Additionally, those living within the corporate limits of Bude can contact BCF representative Veronica Brown at 601-810-9674 to make an appointment for a volunteer to come to their home or property and remove any unwanted items.

“Our goal is to encourage our neighbors to help remove unsightly trash and debris from property in the community as a means of beautifying the town,” Brown said.

“Along with getting rid of garbage, we encourage people to take a few minutes to spruce things up around their homes and businesses.

“Devoting a little bit of your time in cleaning up will make a world of difference, and gives our community a sense of pride in where they live.”

Besides the clean-up activities, the day’s events will feature food items available for purchase along with a moonbounce, train ride and activities for children.

All children’s activities are provided at no cost.

Additionally, hamburger plates prepared by Donna’s Catering are available for $10 per each.

Tickets for those plates must be purchased in advance.
