FC girls thump Lady Cobras, fall to Ole Brook in PK shootout

Franklin County High School’s Lady Soccer Dawgs battled for a 3-2 win over district opponent Wesson on Thursday, Dec. 9 and came up on the short end of a 4-1 road decision to Brookhaven on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

FC’s varsity girls sport a 7-5 season record overall while the squad is 2-0 in regional play.


The Lady Soccer Dawgs pounded out 35 offensive shots with 17 shots on goal to dominate the visiting Lady Cobras during much of the game.

FC scored all of its points in the first half while Wesson scored once in each of the halves to keep things close down the stretch.

Kayleigh Bolt, Kayleigh Foy and Edniya Gordan each scored for Franklin County with Brooklynn Cupit, Karlee Wallace and Morgan Laird credited with one assist each in the contest.

Kayleigh Bolt had a team-high eight shots with four of those being shots on goal in pacing the Lady Bulldogs.

Wallace and Laird both ended up with five shots and two SOG with Ashlynn O’Quinn and Cupit finishing with four shots each and two SOG apiece.

Also on offense, Foy and Gre’yone Queen each attempted three shots with two shots on goal as Gordon collected two shots and one SOG and Lilly Hutto had one shot.

Defensively, FC had 48 stops overall against Wesson with Ali Bolt leading with seven and Wallace having six.

Take-away totals for the Lady Dawgs included: Kaitlyn Fussell, 5; O’Quinn, 4; Martin, 4; Addison Cooper, 2; Queen, 2; Foy, 2; Kayleigh Bolt, 2; Carmen Coleman, 1; Gordon, 1; and Laird, 1.

Amberly Wallace had a single save and the win in the outing as FC goalkeeper while surrendering two goals to Wesson.

FC 1 (OT-PK)

After both FC and Brookhaven battled to a 2-all regulation draw, it came down to penalty kicks in giving the Lady Panthers the win over the visiting Lady Bulldogs last Tuesday night.

Kayleigh Bolt and Hutto scored both Franklin County goals in regulation and the Lady Bulldogs outshot Ole Brook 16-6 during the 80-minute showdown.

In the end, Brookhaven converted four penalty kicks and FC could only muster one to seal the victory for the Lady Panthers.

Franklin’s successful penalty kick was made by O’Quinn.

Cupit and Laird both had assists for the Lady Dawgs against Brookhaven.

In terms of offensive effort, FC was led by Kayleigh Bolt’s five shots and three shots on goal while Laird concluded her night with three shots and one SOG.

Foy and Queen wound up with two shots each while Cupit and Hutto had one SOG apiece and Wallace had one shot.

On defense, Franklin had 61 stops with Wallace and Ali Bolt having a team-high nine apiece.

Among those with defensive take-aways were Kayleigh Bolt, 7; Hutto, 5; Cupit, 5; Fussell, 5; Foy, 4; Amberly Wallace, 4; O’Quinn, 4; Laird, 3; Martin, 2; Cooper, 1; Gordon, 1; Queen, 1; and Meg Kelly, 1.

Goalkeeper Katherine Romero had four saves for the Lady Bulldogs versus surrendering two goals in regulation and four penalty kick goals in overtime.

The Lady Soccer Dawgs will play host to West Lincoln tonight — Thursday, Dec. 16 — before taking a holiday break.

The team will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 4 with a road game at Wesson.
