Peggie King Johnson of Atlanta, Ga., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2022, at home surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Peggie Jean was born to Esther Frances and Archie Ray King on March 15, 1934 in Franklin County, Miss., where she resided for almost 20 years.

After graduating high school, she joined her sister Betty and husband Joseph “Joe” Farquhar in Quitman, Ga., where she met her husband of 52 years, James “Jim” Riley Johnson.

After their marriage in 1956, they immediately moved to Atlanta.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, Sunday school teacher, and Girl Scout leader.

Jim and Peggie also enjoyed many exciting years as members of the American Saddlebred Association of Georgia.

Peggie was predeceased by her husband, James Riley Johnson; her parents, Esther Frances and Archie Ray King; her brothers, Charles Lindberg King and Richard Kenneth King; and her sister, Betty King Farquhar.

She is survived by her daughters, Beverly Jan Riddle and her husband, Robert, of Atlanta, Cynthia Jill Phillips and her husband, David, of Atlanta and Jodi Frances Johnson of Atlanta; her grandchildren, Christian, Tyler, Eric, Caroline, Kaitlyn, Riley and Julia; and her great-grandchild, Maxwell.
