Funeral services for Elaine Hilton Goodson, 84, of Meadville, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at New Hope Baptist Church in Meadville.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, 2022, and from 9 a.m., until the time of service on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the church.

She was born to Darsie Lee Hilton and Jessie Lee Boyte Hilton in Lincoln County on Aug. 6, 1938, and passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at Saint Dominic Medical Center in Jackson.

Mrs. Goodson served as the chief financial officer for the Franklin County School District for many years and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church where she served in the Women’s Mission organization as well as being the church treasurer.

She was also in the Woman’s Club, and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She was blessed to have seen not only great-grandchildren, but to welcome one great-great-grandchild.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Goodson was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, June Swinney; and her son-in-law, Lynn Wactor.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Walter Philip Goodson; her children, Debra Lane Wactor, Denver Philip Goodson (Hattie) and Mary Beth Goodson; her sisters, Carol Cothern and Barbara Graves; her five grandchildren, Ashley Yelverton (Lee), Melissa Morris (Seth), Hunter Hornbeak (Erin), Stacy Coker (Lewis) and Amy Peterson (Timmy); her six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Mrs. Goodson’s honor to New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4915 New Hope Road, Meadville, MS 39653.
