Spring, Bates tops in Homochitto tri-race competition

Chase Spring and LeeAnn Bates took top honors in a grueling tri-race — involving a 5 kilometer run along with kayak and mountain bike races — during the 2021 Homochitto River Race held in Franklin County on Saturday, Oct. 23.

The athletic event, which is part of the annual Homochitto River Festival in Meadville, draws participants from throughout the area and region to take part in the competition.

Spring finished with an overall time of 2:39:13 as the top male while Bates was best among women participants with a time of 3:03:51.

Other finishing times among men and women in the tri-race included:

• Eric Boyd — 2:51:47 (second place in men’s division).

• Phillip Dillon — 2:55:36.

• Candice Norman — 3:11:37 (second place in women’s division).

Carlos Johnson finished with the best time among male competitors who took part in the 5 kilometer run only.

Johnson’s scorching pace helped him finish in a course-best 18:55. Randy Youngblood finished second overall among men with a 23:59 showing.

Renee Miller was the top female runner with a time of 23:07. Jeanenne Mullins finished second with a 27:48 finish.

Luke LeBlanc and Tracy LeBlanc were the top male and female finishers in the 5K run and kayak race combo.

Luke LeBlanc’s time of 2:16:55 placed him atop the leaderboard with Vince Woodcock finishing second overall with a 2:32:39 showing.

Tracy LeBlanc’s time of 2:48:37 helped her claim first-place accolades while Marina Spring was second with a time of 3:02:27.
