FCSD announces summer reading program for area children

The Franklin County School District has announced plans to host its summer food service program for area children during June.

Melinda Arnold, who serves as the FCSD Food Service administrator, said the outreach will provide breakfast and lunch each weekday beginning Thursday, June 2 and will conclude on Wednesday, June 29.

“Meals will be served free to children who are 18 years of age or younger, and all young people from the community are welcome to take part in the program,” Arnold said.

“The program will also provide meals for those students taking part in summer school as well as summer enrichment activities on campus.

“We also encourage families, summer camp participants, Vacation Bible School programs or any other groups to join us for breakfast and lunch.”

Meals will be served in the Franklin County High School Cafeteria with breakfast available between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m., and lunch provided from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

“All meals must be eaten in the cafeteria,” Arnold added.

The feeding initiative, which is federally funded and administered through the state, seeks to ensure children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is traditionally not in session.
