Funeral services for Vera Mae Smith, 85, of Meadville were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville with the Rev. Mike Morris, the Rev. Trent Moak and the Rev. Matt Blackwell officiating.

Interment was in Midway Cemetery in Franklin County.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 6, 2022, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, May 7 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Smith was born to Lewis E. “Dubber” Byrd and Willie Flowers Byrd Scott on Jan. 28, 1937, and passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at her home.

While she will be missed by many, the family is thankful she is again in the arms of her beloved husband, Bobby R. Smith, who passed away in 2013 after 59 years of marriage.

She was an active member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church where she lovingly served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher.

Mrs. Smith also retired from Franklin Telephone Co., after 28 years of service.
Although childless, she was a mother to many. Her kind and loving spirit made people flock to her.
She took every opportunity to guide people to Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Survivors include her first cousins and caregiver, Edward Flowers (Sr.) and wife, Deborah, Edward “Bubba” Flowers (Jr.) and wife, Leslie, and Angel Smith Davis; her special friend, Winnie Scott; her brother-in-law, Ben Smith, and his wife, Jean; her sister-in-law, Bobbie Smith; her special nephew, Chris Smith; and many cousins, nieces, nephews along with a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Neal Murray, Johnny Scott, Bill Scott, Cody Butler, Shane Arnold and Glen Richardson.
