A 34-year-old Southwest Mississippi man is facing an armed robbery charge in connection with an afternoon hold-up on Friday, April 22 at the Smithdale Dollar General store on U.S. Highway 98.

Franklin County Sheriff Tom Tindle confirmed Blaine Chambers, a native of McComb and a resident of Amite County, was taken into custody several hours after the incident just inside the Franklin County line.

“A witness saw a red truck with an Amite County license plate parked a short distance from the store around the time of the robbery,” Tindle said.

“That same witness provided a good description of the suspect that corresponded with details about the individual’s general appearance that we received from a store employee,” Tindle said.

The Amite County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol reportedly arrested Chambers in connection with the robbery on Friday evening.

“We are greatly appreciative to these law enforcement agencies that provided assistance and resources in making a quick arrest in this case in Amite County,” Tindle said.

Chambers was taken into custody without incident and was awaiting an initial appearance hearing.

An undisclosed amount of cash was reportedly taken at knife point in the robbery and no injuries were reported.
