Steele Foundation 5K, skeet shoot set Saturday, May 14

The annual Nathan Steele Foundation fund-raiser, which will include a 5-kilometer trail run and skeet shoot competition, will be held Saturday, May 14 at 6615 U.S. Highway 84 in Franklin County’s McCall Creek community.

The foundation, created in honor of Nathan Alan Steele, works to carry on its namesake’s dream of providing rural emergency medical services in Franklin County and Southwest Mississippi through an educational scholarship program endowed through Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Planned activities will begin with the “Built of Steele” 5K trail run, which will begin at 8 a.m., with registration for the run starting one hour beforehand.

The skeet competition will be split into up to four categories — youth, amateur, sportsman and a special ladies division (if three or more individuals sign-up to take part).

Registration for the shoot will be conducted on site from 8 to 9 a.m.

Competitors are invited to bring their shotguns and shells for the event with organizers noting a pistol event will follow the skeet shoot.

The fund-raiser will also include hamburger and barbecue sandwich lunches being served, a bake sale as well as a variety of raffles.

Additionally, orders are now being taken through Monday, April 25 for the official skeet shoot fund-raiser T-shirts (sizes ranging from youth small to adult 4XL) and tank tops (adult small to 4XL) for $20 each.

Preorders of shirts and tank tops are recommended as a limited supply will be available on the day of the fund-raiser.

An official shirt order form can be found on the Nathan Steele Foundation Facebook page.
