Residents being asked to avoid wildfire area

Area residents are being urged to avoid an area where a 1,500-ace wildfire is being fought by emergency personnel.

According to a news release, Forest Service firefighters are battling to contain a more than 1,500-acre wildfire on the Homochitto Ranger District along Kings Ferry Road. Officials are advising people in and near Meadville that they may see smoke in the area today and tomorrow. All residents — and especially motorists — are asked to exercise caution as visibility may be limited.

The fire, located on Forest Service land, has not damaged any homes nor structures. Firefighters hope to hvze the fire completely contained later today. Officials stated that it is a wildfire and not related to any prescribed fires.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by law enforcement.
