Schools closing early Tuesday ahead of severe weather threat

Classes in Franklin County will dismiss at 1 p.m. Tuesday as school officials try to get ahead of the severe weather being forecast.
"Due to the severe weather and the threat of tornadoes and hail, the Franklin County School District will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5," Superintendent of Education Chris Kent said in a statement. "Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Safety is our No. 1 priority."
Severe weather is projected to roll through the Southeast Tuesday and into Wednesday morning, bringing strong winds, heavy rains and the threat of tornadoes and hail. All residents are asked to take precautions as the system makes its way through the area.
