September 10, 2024
Due to the threat of severe weather from Francine, the Franklin County School District will be closing on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Francine, which is expected to make landfall as a hurricane Wednesday afternoon and be a tropical storm as it reaches Franklin County sometime Thursday. High winds and the potential for flash flooding and even possible tornadoes is expected on Wednesday and into Thursday. The tropical system has slowly drifted eastward during the day Tuesday, but the possibility of severe weather is very real.
With that in mind, school officials made the decision Tuesday to conduct school as normal on Wednesday and close all schools on Thursday. A decision on if classes will take place on Friday will be made mid-day Thursday.
