REBECCA "BECKY" ROBERTSON

June 30, 1939-May 23, 2024

Funeral services for Rebecca "Becky" Robertson, 84, were conducted

on Monday, May 27, 2024 from Mt. Vernon Methodist church in the

Homochitto Community, with Rev. James H. Taylor III officiating.

Interment followed at Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Born on June 30, 1939 to James Howard Taylor and Christine O'Neal

Taylor, she grew up in Crawfordsville, Ark., alongside her two brothers

in a loving and supportive family.

Becky had many names over the course of her life --- Baby Doll to her

parents, Sister to her siblings and their children, Mama to her daughter

and Mimi to many. She met the love of her life, Joseph "Joe"

Robertson, while attending Ole Miss. The two were married on Dec. 18,

1960. Ever the diligent wife and mother, she followed her husband

throughout his career as a coach before the two settled back home in

Homochitto to farm.

Becky was a dedicated educator and school administrator whose passion

for teaching touched the lives of countless residents, always expressing

pride in their achievements, especially those in her beloved Amite

County School District. Her commitment to education extended beyond the

classroom as she served on the Board of Trustees at Southwest

Mississippi Community College (SMCC) for many years.

She died on Thursday, May 23, 2024 in Oxford.

Family was at the heart of her life. She was immensely proud of her

grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always sharing their

accomplishments with joy. Her legacy lives on through her daughter,

Christie Hemphill (BB); her grandson, Blake Hemphill (Cortney); her

granddaughter, Brittany Gibson (Jonathan); and her great-grandchildren,

Jon Lane, Russ, Rivers and Wren Gibson.

Becky is also survived by her brothers, "Jimmy" Taylor (Linda) and

"Buddy" Taylor (Laquita); her sister-in-law, Lugenia Scarbrough

(David); a host of nieces and nephews, Audrey Watkins (Phil), Vicky

Wilson (Tom), Julie Caldwell (Jerry), Ginger Taylor, Wendy Taylor, Jim

Taylor (Anna), Anna Massey (Sean), Katherine McCormick (Austin) and

"Buddy" Taylor, Jr.; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe; and her parents,

James Howard Taylor and Christine O'Neal Taylor.

Becky's life was a testament to love, dedication and service. She will

be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her legacy will continue to

inspire and uplift the many lives she touched. She will forever be our

Mimi.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Gibson, David Scarbrough, "Buddy" Taylor,

Jr., Jason Ballard, Sean Massey and Austin McCormick. Honorary

pallbearers were "Jimmy" Taylor, "Buddy" Taylor, Jon Lance

Gibson and Russ Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the

Southwest Mississippi Community College Foundation, 1156 College Dr.,

Summit, MS 39666 in Rebecca's memory.

PHYLLIS K. CAMERON

Sept. 16, 1957-May 9, 2024

Funeral services for Phyllis Kay "PhylCat" Cameron, 66, were

conducted on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from Springhill Missionary Baptist

Church, with Rev. Luther Bonds, Jr., officiating.

Interment followed at Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Roxie.

Born on Sept. 16, 1957 to the late Lela Mae Cameron and Percy Cameron,

Sr., she lived her childhood and adulthood in Roxie. She joined and was

a faithful, lifelong member of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church,

where she served on the Usher Board until her sudden illness.

She graduated from Franklin County High School in 1975 and held a few

jobs. Those jobs included working for Movie Star (Magnolia Garments) and

Fruit of the Loom in Vidalia, La. Her most recent job was as a Custodian

for Franklin County Lower Elementary School.

As the years went by, between those jobs came along three little angels:

Violet, Ashley and Marcus Cameron.

She died on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at her residence in Roxie, surrounded

by her grandchildren, daughter and sister.

She is survived by her two children and their respective spouses, Violet

M. Cameron and Roxie and Marcus J. and Melanie Cameron of Picayune; her

grandchildren, Bre'Asya Queen, Autumn Hopkins, Marquez Washington,

Ariella Wilson, Noah Cameron and Rai'leigh Holmes; a great-grandchild,

Me'Lani Queen; six bonus children and their respective spouses,

Roxanne and Curtis Harris, Ralph Roby, Jr., and Debra Roby of Tennessee,

Phyllis Roby and Natchez and Tkeyah and Deshawn McDaniel of Roxie; six

siblings and their respective spouses, Gloria Hayes, Percy Cameron, Jr.,

and Gary Cameron, all of Roxie, Debbie Briggs of Kennesaw, Ga., Aubrey

and Shelia Cameron, Sr., of Montgomery, Ala., and Doretha and Robert

Fleming of McCall Creek; one remaining aunt, Lizzie Nelson of Amite,

La.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lela and Percy Cameron, Sr.;

her daughter, Ashley Cameron; special companion Ralph Roby and two

nieces, Dianah Hayes Barnes and Carmen Briggs.
