COVID-19 shot clinics set in Roxie, Bude on Thursday, Jan. 13

With coronavirus infections rising rapidly locally and across Mississippi, Franklin County Memorial Hospital and its Family Medical Group Clinics have announced plans for two community vaccination events on Thursday, Jan. 13.

Rhonda Terrell, who serves as FMG Clinics manager, said vaccines and boosters will be available from 10 to 11 a.m., at Roxie’s Town Square and from 2 to 4 p.m., on the frontage road in front of Bude Baptist Church.

“We encourage residents to come by for the Pfizer vaccine — for ages 5 and up — or the Moderna shot given to those ages 18 and up,” Terrell said.

“Our goal is to get out into the communities we serve to hopefully make it more convenient for people to get their first or second doses or booster shots.”

The federal Centers for Disease Control have issued the following guidelines for COVID-19 booster shots:

• For those ages 12 and older who have received both Pfizer inoculations, a booster is recommended at least five months afterwards.

• Those who have received both does of the Moderna vaccine (ages 18 and up) should also get a booster five months after completing the primary shot series.
Terrell said those taking part in Thursday’s vaccination events will need to bring their COVID-19 vaccination card along with a photo identification.

“We’re also asking that if you plan to come, think about bringing family members or neighbors that might not otherwise have a way to get there,” she added.

“The best way to help limit the continued spread of this illness and to prevent a growing number of hospitalizations is to get your shots or boosters now.”

In conjunction with the clinic, AJFC Community Action Agency staffers will be onsite to distribute up to $100 in gift certificates for those receiving their first or second doses of the vaccines.
Terrell encourages those with questions about Thursday’s shot and booster programs to call 601-384-3199.
