Franklin County’s Lady Bulldogs varsity basketball team took key 7-3A district wins last week in knocking off Wilkinson County, 50-35, on Jan. 7 and blasting past Port Gibson, 46-13, on Jan. 4.

The victories upped FC’s record to 12-4 overall with the team now sporting a 2-0 mark in regional competition with roughly three weeks remaining in the regular season.

Despite trailing by one-point early, Franklin County’s offense had no problems finding the rim in the second and third quarters in a 50-35 win over Wilkinson County last Friday night.

In the second stanza, FC’s offense went on a 17-2 run and pulled out to a 27-13 lead headed into the mid-game hiatus.

The Lady Dawgs picked up where they left off with a 13-8 scoring effort in the third quarter.

Wilkinson County charged back in the fourth frame with a 14-10 offensive performance, but the comeback attempt was too little, too late.

Ja’Sharreah Hunt finished the night with 10 points for FC with Harmoni Porter adding six, Niyla Wright chipping in five and Rylei Turner tacking on four. De’Asia Buie wound up with two.

The Lady Bulldogs never trailed in a 46-13 thumping of Port Gibson’s Lady Blue Waves last Tuesday at home.

FC jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the first quarter and held a 24-10 advantage at intermission. The Lady Dawgs exploded again in the third with a 20-1 run with the teams playing to a 2-all tie in the final frame.
