Alice Faye Smith Steele

Funeral services for Alice Faye Smith Steele, 86, of Smithdale, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 2021, at Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit with Brother Richard Cothren officiating.

Interment will follow in the Terry Family Cemetery in Smithdale.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m., until the time of service on Thursday, Dec. 23 at the funeral home.

She was born to Jack Stanley Smith and Ethel Claire Terry Smith in the family home in Smithdale on April 26, 1935, and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at The Claiborne in McComb.

Through her life, she was a church pianist at Mount Zion, Meadville Baptist, Eastside Baptist and Mount Olive Baptist churches.

At Mt. Olive, she was a faithful and engaged member teaching Sunday School and playing the piano.

She loved to crochet, was a wonderful cook and was known for her many dishes, especially her chocolate pie.

She loved her children, grandchildren, family and friends, and cherished every moment she spent with them.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charley “Buck” Steele; and her son, Gary Steele.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet and Carey Buckles of Smithdale; her five grandchildren, April Kehm and Ross, Alyssa Buckles, Cameron Buckles, Joel Buckles and Jackson Buckles; her sisters, Nellie Spring and Evelyn Hilton; her brother, Jackie Smith and Mary Lee, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Pallbearers will include Cameron Buckles, Joel Buckles, Jackson Buckles, Michael Spring, Phillip Spring and Ross Kehm.
